A Year of Writing?

Happy New Year.

It’s 2:26am on January 2nd, 2017 and I have already started to capitulate on internalised “resolutions”. Okay, maybe just one for now – writing and posting everyday.

Last year, I met and had the acquaintance of the phenomenal Boro Odulani (or Boro of Lagos), a lawyer, writer, photographer and part-time shrink. She’s amazing in a lot of ways, but her writing heat map for 2016 is,  perhaps,  the most  extraordinary feat she pulled off. She wrote and posted everyday on her blog.

It is the equivalent of a coder pulling a commit everyday. Right now, I’m not even sure if this analogy isn’t falling flat on its face.

I have a number of unfinished posts in my drafts that I never got to complete and publish. If you’re reading this, then I may be well off on my way to actually publishing more then.

Watching Boro’s new posts pop up on my timeline every night was very deeply satisfying. I secretly rooted for her everyday, hoping she’d see it through to the finish line. Testament that it was doable. And that, maybe, I was also doing same, vicariously, through her.

I want to give it a shot directly this year though – posting everyday. I expect I shall fail spectacularly at it (seeing as I couldn’t even pull off a planned weekly post last year), but I’m willing to give it a go.

There’ll be a lot of ramblings, musings, movie and book reviews, lame attempts at poetry and fiction and notes on stuff I’m learning if I’m gonna be doing this. And many will be posted without pictures,  initially,  because I’ll most likely be writing  on my mobile app.

The goal is to get more of my own content out on my own blog. I peddled quite a lot of writing last year – freelance stuff, that couldn’t be published personally. I’m looking to do both this year.

Again, I expect I shall fail. Hopefully, I don’t fail too far off the mark. Thankfully, none of these is written in stone. But this is the first one.

Here’s to the next.
